385 Life GOAM Dream

How to Jump Start Your Life with GOAM

I’ve never heard of the word GOAM before, which is saying something considering I’m a bona fide Book Dragon. However, something magical happened recently that finally kicked this GOAM into gear. If you’re wondering what the heck it is, and how to jump-start your life with GOAM, read on…

Do you believe in destiny? If so, do you sometimes go through episodes where you lose that sense of wonder, that Sixth Sense of intuition and inspiration that pulls you toward your future? I know I do, and stress doesn’t help.

Coupled with these trying times, stress has left me scatterbrained. It looks a little something like this:

Overwhelmed lately?
Can’t seem to get your life under control?
Can’t remember the last time you did something fun?
Do you have a thousand things you need to do, want to do, or enjoy?
Can’t seem to make a move toward any of them?
Are you feeling stuck in the muck?

I was all of this and then some! I had – no, have – a million things on my to-do list. What’s worse, I’m constantly adding more to the list, but I never feel like I’m ticking any of them off! Does this happen to you too?

Overwhelm is truly the first ingredient in my Stress Soup.

SCATTERED GOALS

Like you, my goals include personal and professional to-dos:

  • The 385 Life Business I’m relaunching (questioning my every move).
  • Courses I need to take (questioning which one to take first).
  • My family needs tending and care.
  • My husband needs tending and care (very different from the one above).
  • And Myself! Self-care is vital to maintain one’s sanity:

Here I am, neck-deep in things to get done, but immobile. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, magic happened.

I had a dream that literally provided an answer. In the dream, I came across a blackboard with one word written on it in bold, grainy chalk, all up in my face. The word was GOAM.

I detail the dream in exquisite suspense here (yes I tooted my own horn, but if I don’t, who will!). Suffice it to say, it was a surreal experience.

It was one of those pivotal moments that I knew would change me. I knew it would jump-start my life and finally provide motivation.

Again, I’d never seen that word before. Is it even a word?

As soon as I woke up from the dream, I grabbed my phone to look it up. I got this:

GIRL ON A MISSION

WHOA! Really? How cool is that!

Am I on a mission? Yes! Of course, I am. I always am, in one way, shape, or form. Life is to be LIVED after all.

Currently, I have this GARGANTUAN GOAL for my life complete with a Mount Everest type trajectory. Don’t we all?

Or, am I the only over-achiever around these days? Somehow, I don’t think so.

My goals include the massive relaunch of 385 and all the things that go with that: freelance writing gigs, e-books in production, products to launch, etc.

Anyone who blogs for business all on their own knows this is a huge undertaking. And the aspects of ensuring profitability are daunting.

The dream itself was pretty amazing, pointing out much more than just the GOAM directive. But essentially, the dream reminded me that I have to FOCUS on the task at hand.

GOAM reminded me that I am on a mission, but missions require action to manifest.

I’ve been so overwhelmed lately, with thoughts and ideas of action, that I was incapable of acting on even the smallest task.

The GOAM dream reminded me of one, simple fact that’s true for all of us.

A GOAM CAN ONLY START AT THE BEGINNING

385 Life GOAM Starting Point

Basically, you have to take the first humble step on your personal yellow brick road and proceed forward, slowly if need be, but confident that you have the tools you need to see the journey through. That’s how GOAM, or the mantra of GOAM, can help jump-start your life.

As for me, I need to take my own advice from The 385 Guide to a Happy Life. Tip Number 8 to be exact, Don’t Get Caught in Analysis Paralysis.

I have to stop analyzing every little idea, waiting to perfect them all and then questioning myself on which is the oh, so’perfect-est’ one to do. Which incidentally, is Tip Number 2 in The 385 Guide to a Happy Life, Perfection is Pointless.

I have to FOCUS on the positive, on things like my creativity, which is finally flowing again. I’ve been writing poetry for goodness sake, and I don’t even like poetry!

At heart, I have to get out of my own way and let it happen. That’s what being a Girl (or guy) On A Mission is all about.

WHAT IS YOUR MISSION

Is there a goal you’d like to accomplish? A feat you’d like done.

What mountain are you looking to conquer? What passion do you want to pursue?

Do you feel stressed about it? Does your plate seem too full and therefore, unappetizing, making you push it away altogether?

  • Do you want to go back to school, or take up a new hobby; not just in passing, but with purpose?
  • Do you want to start your own business? But what kind of business?
  • Do you want to get healthy, eating right and moving your body again?

If you have things you want to get done remember you’re a Girl On A Mission, a GOAM, and then make it happen. The mantra reminds you to get down to brass tacks, pick one and JUST GO WITH IT.

Repeating messages to yourself DOES work. Mantras work. We do it all the time with negative thoughts, it’s time we do the same with positive affirmations.

It’s always Glass Half Full when you remember that Happiness is a Choice.

GOAM is kind of like GOAT’s mother (Greatest of all Time). You can’t become the greatest without starting off somewhere and then following it through!

“Remember you are a GOAM, You are a Girl or Guy On A Mission. Focus on the first little brick on your path, and get it done; with a smile on your face, of course, because Life is supposed to be fun.”

  1. Like you, because we’re Gemini sisters, I always have tons of ideas, things I want/need to do and that’s why I have little pieces of paper lying around my desk, why I have too many stickies on my desktop (just cleaned them yesterday), why I have too many Trello boards (they are getting cleaned up today).
Thank you for this great post reminding us to use a positive Mantra and just do it! 🙂

  2. Love your writing
very inspirational, wish I was younger to start fresh,
though age is but a number, but sometimes life can have Big Blocks in the way

Regardless, I’m so proud of you. My heart swells with joy and pride just seeing your accomplishments
